1889 Foundation is proud to announce a generous donation of $40,000 to the Alberta Simpson Gerber Nursing Scholarship Fund, an already established initiative dedicated to supporting nursing students in need of financial assistance for their  education. The donation, made by Dennis Gerber in honor of his mother, will significantly enhance the fund’s capacity to provide scholarships to deserving students in the upcoming academic year and beyond.

The Alberta Simpson Gerber Nursing Scholarship was originally established in 2021 with a goal to provide one scholarship per year to a deserving nursing student enrolled in Conemaugh’s School of Nursing program.  This substantial contribution will allow the fund to grow and provide scholarships for many years to come.  The donation will directly benefit nursing students who may otherwise struggle to afford the rising costs of tuition, books, and living expenses by helping to provide the financial support they need to succeed.

In addition to helping students financially, the fund aims to create a lasting legacy of philanthropy, encouraging others in the community to consider contributing to this worthy cause.  “We are truly grateful for the continued support of our donors,” said 1889 Foundation’s President, Susan Mann. “This donation will allow us to further our mission and ensure that the Alberta Simpson Gerber Nursing Scholarship Fund remains a vital resource for nursing students for many years to come.”
