The 60th class of the Program for Surgical Technology at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center will graduate on August 4, and all five students are the recipients of 1889 Foundation scholarships based on clinical and didactic excellence.
Each graduate will receive a certificate in surgical technology from the hospital and an Associate of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Surgical technologists are health professionals who are an integral part of medical teams providing surgical care to patients, and work in operating rooms, anesthesia departments, GI labs, doctor’s offfices, and more. Conemaugh’s Program for Surgical Technology is the oldest program in Pennsylvania, and one of the oldest in the country. There is an acute shortage of surgical technologists and many job opportunities are available.
